BARRY MEEGAN

As a retired police officer who currently works as a salesman for a fence company, Barry has no background as an artisan. So, he caught everyone by surprise when he started making his own handmade oyster clamps.

What started as a small hobby, produced as gifts for friends and family, has become what can only be described as a local phenomenon. One time while Christmas shopping, I saw a commercial oyster clamp in a store. When I was looking at it, I was thinking “I can make one better than this.” After doing a little research, I found out that, although not popular in the United States, oyster clamps had been used in Europe for many years. There are only a few commercial clamps on the market these days, and they are generally poor quality.

Therefore, I headed to the garage and attempted to make one. Thus was born the Truro Oyster Clamp.
