BRIAN STYMEST
Brian Stymest portraits more than capture the likeness; his unique skill to portray depth within a subject gives his portraits life beyond the subject. His technique is both traditional and realistic, and he works in a range or mediums including pencil, charcoal, watercolor and oil.
While completing his training in London at the Camberwell School of Art and the Royal College of Art, Brian studies with Stanley Spencer, R.B. Kitaj, Euen Uglow and David Hockney. In addition to portraits, Brian is an accomplished landscape artist.
Brian has exhibited extensively in London, including the Royal Academy, The Young Contemporaries, and Leicester Galleries. Since moving to the US, Brian has exhibited in various galleries in Montclair, and has won multiple awards from the New Jersey Watercolor Society.
Notable commissions include the Queen Mother, Bette Davis, Groucho Marx, Lord Luke, Katherine Hepburn … and many others who prefer to retain their anonymity.
